Bond Humanitarian Working Group on Syria statement on changes to the UK’s Syria sanctions regime
Following the Ministerial Statement on Thursday 13 February that the UK government will adapt the UK’s Syria sanctions regime following the fall of Assad’s dictatorship late last year, Bond’s Humanitarian sub-working group on Syria said:
We welcome the UK government’s decision to ease certain sanctions on Syria—an important step in addressing their humanitarian impact. As members of the Bond Humanitarian Sub-Working Group on Syria, we look forward to working with the UK government to ensure aid efforts are not hindered. Our priority is delivering life-saving assistance and supporting Syria’s recovery. Through continued engagement with the FCDO, we aim to be effective stakeholders in rebuilding Syria. We remain committed to working with all parties to uphold humanitarian principles and ensure Syrians receive the urgent support they need.
ENDS.
