Kemi Badenoch appointed leader of the Conservative Party – Bond reaction

On Saturday 2 November, Kemi Badenoch was voted as the new leader of the Conservative Party and leader of the official opposition in the House of Commons.

In reaction to her appointment, Romilly Greenhill, CEO of Bond, said:

Congratulations to Kemi Badenoch on her appointment as Conservative Party leader. We look forward to working with her to address global development and humanitarian challenges.

As global challenges like conflict, threats to democracy, and the growing impacts of climate change become ever more interconnected, it’s critical that the UK’s official opposition steps up and works with the sector to hold the government to account.

We urge the Conservative Party to maintain its manifesto commitments to tackle global poverty, deliver the SDGs and restore the UK aid budget to 0.7% of Gross National Income as soon as the fiscal situation allows.

We look forward to working with the new shadow cabinet to address these urgent issues and drive meaningful change.

ENDS.
