Bond response to Priti Patel becoming the new Shadow Foreign Secretary

This week, Kemi Badenoch, the new leader of the Conservative Party and leader of the official opposition in the House of Commons appointed her shadow cabinet. Priti Patel MP was appointed the new Shadow Foreign Secretary.

In reaction to her appointment, Romilly Greenhill, CEO of Bond, said:

Congratulations to Priti Patel on her appointment as Shadow Foreign Secretary. We look forward to working with her to address urgent global crises and strengthen the UK’s role in fighting global poverty.

With rising global conflicts, threats to democracy, and the impacts of climate change becoming ever more interconnected, it’s crucial that the Shadow Foreign Secretary prioritises collaboration to address these global challenges.

We call on her to maintain her party’s manifesto commitment to tackling global poverty and restoring UK aid to 0.7% of GNI in a way that’s effective, transparent, and accountable to British taxpayers as soon as the fiscal situation allows.

ENDS.
