Dr. Ruth Segal joined CAFOD in 2021 to develop and implement CAFOD’s global advocacy programme on food systems. In this role, she works across the campaigns, advocacy and international programmes teams to ensure that CAFOD’s global advocacy work on food systems is rooted in sound analysis and in partner experience.
Prior to joining CAFOD, Ruth was a research fellow at the Sussex Sustainability Research Programme (SSRP), where she researched just and equitable implementation of actions to address climate goals and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) synergistically. Ruth has a background in international development, focusing on food and agriculture issues. She has worked for Oxfam International as policy manager for the GROW campaign; with Rural Reconstruction Nepal as policy coordinator; and with Christian Aid as programme manager. She has also worked in UK-focused policy bodies and as a food activist in her local community.
Ruth holds a PhD in Science and Technology Policy (focusing on policy dynamics in international agricultural research) from the University of Sussex Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) and an MSc in Food Policy from the Centre for Food Policy, London.
