Irene Naikaali Ssentongo joined The Hunger Project Uganda in 2017 as the Head of Programs. Now, as Country Leader, she provides strategic leadership and guidance in the implementation of all The Hunger Project Uganda program activities with the ultimate goal of amplifying community voices and leadership towards the sustainable end of hunger.
Prior to joining The Hunger Project, Irene served as senior grant specialist with Catholic Relief Services where she managed granting and program management aspects of Gender equality, women empowerment, livelihoods, Youth and Adolescent Sexual and reproductive health related programs. Irene’s motivation to work with The Hunger Project is deeply rooted in her childhood dream of living in a world where women have the space to authentically use their voice and leadership to transform systems that miss represent their power and influence in society.
She holds a Masters’ degree in Health Services Management from Clarke International University and a Bachelor of Social Science- Public Administration from Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda. She is also a seasoned Toastmaster with Toastmasters International, a leading communications and leadership skills development nonprofit educational organization with a worldwide network of clubs.
